Style

The album represents a sort of break in style is: The music had become harder and contained influences of Nu Metal, which in the EP Six Ugly have already indicated. The hardest songs The IIIrd Empire, Asunaki Kōfuku, koenaki asu, Marmalade Chainsaw, Я to the Core, New Age Culture and Obscure are more likely to be assigned to the punk / hardcore and sometimes very quickly ( Я to the Core ) or with psychedelic shouting ( Obscure ) "seasoned", sometimes also comes distortion Effects ( Increase Blue ) or guttural vocals are used. The songs RED ... [em ], Kasumi, Drain Away and Fukai are rock songs, with melodic arches and heavy guitar riffs. In addition to the somewhat jazzy ballad geratenen Sajou no uta are another three ballads found on the disc: audience Killer Loop, Shokubeni and amber.

The song Shokubeni consisting of蚀( shoku, Blackout / erode ) and红( Beni, red), contains a pun. The girl the song is called Kagome, written with the kanji笼( kago, cage) and女(me, girl). Kagome is also a Japanese children's game. Here, a child is determined to " demon ", which stands in the middle and closes his eyes while the other holding hands and singing, dancing in a circle around the " demon ". When the song ends, you have the " demon " name the child, who is standing behind him. If the name is guessed correctly, this change places. The speaking name emphasizes the role change in the lyrics:

The song was re-recorded for the B -side of the single Hageshisa to, kono mune no naka de karamitsuita shakunetsu no yami, the video recordings of which are at the same time the music video. The song was interpreted there clearly emotional, is bass-heavy and contains deep growls and high Screaming.

Reception

According to Jame - World Vulgar imagine the hardest so far and western album of Dir en gray dar. Despite the Nu -Metal, the five would there still be unmistakable. The band had for the second time reinvented itself and would deliver surprisingly the most melodic album to date. The omnipresent hardness serve mostly only as a basis for it. The sound would be pleasantly different from the conventional nu-metal guitar thunder and accurately capture the Zeitgeist. This album constitutes an important guide for the development of Japanese rock music, in particular the visual kei, represents and is incidentally become one of the best metal discs of recent years.

Nihonreview thinks that the album would scare off many fans, as it marked the change from the previous, complex rock songs to a hardcore metal sound. There were many brutal shouts and chants, and fierce guitar tones, resulting in an appreciable differences from the previous three albums, and what would some fans of the first three albums may not like. But the cries and the loud guitars could not the usual complexity of the songs hide, which show up in every song. Although with a new sound would be some weaker songs by experimenting, which would make this album for Dir en gray below average, Vulgar is still a very good hard rock album.

Title list

The lyrics are all written by Kyo. Since the album Vulgar, it is common that the composers of the individual songs are not mentioned.
