Währinger Straße-Volksoper (Vienna U-Bahn)

The station Währinger Straße - Volksoper is a station of the Vienna U -Bahn line U6 in Vienna's 9th district Alsergrund, on the border of the 18th district Waehring. It extends along the Währinger Gürtel between height Währingerstraße and Gentzgasse. The building was first opened in 1898 as part of the ( steam-powered ) light rail Otto Wagner and 1918 closed due to the rampant lack of coal. 1925, the station for now municipally owned, electrified rail was reopened. Between 1925 and 1989 stopped here the light rail lines G and GD. On October 7, 1989 held for the first time the features of U6 in this station.

Plant

The building is designed as a high station and, with its rich ornamentation and the pillars at the entrance of the best preserved and most impressive stations in the former Stadtbahn. The south of the station lying, but no more for station building belonging bridges over the Währingerstraße, and the Verlängerungern Fuchsthallergasse and Schulgasse with their pylons and rich architectural embellishments contribute to the overall impression. In the northern part of the station building is a Billa store in the southern part a scene dock nearby Volksoper. In addition to the western exit there is a tobacco shop.

Other lines

At the western starting an operating track leads to the operation Bahnhofgürtel.
