Wakefield, Quebec

Wakefield is a village in the province of Quebec in Canada and is part of the municipality of La Pêche. Wakefield is located on the Rivière Gatineau and has a few thousand inhabitants.

Wakefield was founded in 1830 by Irish, Scottish and British immigrants. It is located about 30 minutes drive north of Canada's capital Ottawa and is surrounded by picturesque nature. In Wakefield and the surrounding area, numerous emigrants from Germany, Lithuania, Ukraine, Italy, Spain and Ireland have settled. Main source of income is tourism. The place was named after the English Wakefield.

Wakefield is famous for its steam locomotive connection between Hull -Chelsea - Wakefield, which runs once a day during the summer months. Canada is also known throughout the live music bar The Black Sheep. Other options include kayak tours and ski runs.
