Waldir Peres

Valdir Peres ( born February 2, 1951 in Garça, São Paulo; actually Waldir Peres de Arruda ) is a former Brazilian footballer.

The goalkeeper Valdir Peres was 1973-1984 the goalkeeper from São Paulo FC. During this time he was promoted to the Brazilian goalkeeper. Earlier in his career he was still in the shadow of legendary goalkeeper Emerson Leao. So he was at the soccer World Cup in Germany in 1974 and the Football World Cup 1978 in Argentina yet goalkeeper. With the Football World Cup 1982 in Spain, he played all the matches as goalkeeper number one.

Valdir Peres ended his career in 1990, after he had played a total of 30 matches. His son José Diego " Diogo " Pires ( b. 1981 ) is also footballer and plays for Club Guarani.
