Walikale Territory

Walikale is a territory ( county, area of ​​effect of an administrative unit ) in North Kivu, one of 10 or 25 ( in 2011 ) provinces in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. The main town of the area is also called Walikale.

Security situation

The area is situated since 2003 the headquarters of the Democratic Forces de la Libération du Rwanda (FDLR ) ( currently October 2010).

In Walikale there is currently (2010) regularly rapes, killings and looting by regular troops in the country and Rwandan and Congolese militias.

Since the summer of 2011, the government troops are quartered in the field to allow for reorganization. This led to a worsening of the situation.
