History

A good 50 years after the invention of porcelain by Ehrenfried Walther von Tschirnhaus and Johann Friedrich Böttger asked in 1761 Johann Wolfgang Hammann from Katzhütte at the court to Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt for the concession for porcelain production. Only three days earlier, however, this very exclusive concession of GH Awarded Macheleid so that Hammann request was denied. So fast was Johann Wolfgang Hammann his dream of producing the "white gold" but not on and a year later in Katzhütte he succeeded the first fire of hard porcelain. Another year later, he bought the " Freiherr von Hohenthalsche " manor in Walldorf on the territory of the Duchy of Saxe -Coburg -Saalfeld.

After obtaining the license for the manufacture of porcelain by the Duke of Saxe- Coburg on March 30, 1764 Wolfgang Hammann founded together with his son and the glass painter Gottfried Greiner and his cousin Gotthelf Greiner porcelain manufactory in Lichte ( Wallendorf ), one of the oldest in Europe. The Walldorf porcelain was originally distilled from raw materials to the environment so that the shards was correspondingly messy and toned. As early as 1780, however, succeeded by the reference and the use of Bohemian kaolin fire pure white body, so that in 1793 Wilhelm Martius on the Wall Porzellan said: "It is blindingly white, ... fine Painted and so hard that it gives the steel sparks. "

Until 1833, the manufactory was then owned by the family of the Hammann. This was followed by alternating rich years when the Walldorf-based porcelain manufacturer found itself in the hands of various owners, names, even today, are still for porcelain tradition and quality: Hutschenreuther, fights, Sontag, Heubach, Frauenreuth and Heinz Schaubachhütte. The changing owners and the economic ups and downs are manifested not least in the variety of soil trademarks used that occasionally strongly emulated the trademark to the Meißner, which led to several warnings of electoral Saxony state authority. The current brand ( W) bekreuzter helmet crown and the founding year of 1764 was introduced 200 years after the founding of the porcelain factory Walldorf.
