Walter Gross (musician)

Walter Lloyd Gross ( * July 14, 1909 in New York City; † November 27, 1967 in Los Angeles ) was an American jazz musician ( pianist, bandleader ) and composer who has composed numerous pop songs, including 1946 " Tenderly. "

Life

Great as a performer was eleven years old his first public appearance. In the early 1930s, he became a professional musician and played piano in the orchestras of Paul Whiteman, Tommy Dorsey and Raymond Scott, but then worked as a studio musician for CBS. After completing his military service, he was hired in 1946 at Musicraft Records, where he served in recording sessions as a pianist, arranger and conductor, including for Mel Tormé. In the 1950s he moved to California where he worked in the studios and sometimes occurred. As a pianist he accompanied, among others, Maxine Sullivan and Alec Wilder.

1946 Jack Lawrence wrote a text to one of his compositions, " Tenderly ". The song was already in the original version by Sarah Vaughan to a minor hit, but in 1952 developed in the interpretation of Rosemary Clooney million seller. Other successful songs by him are " Your Love", " I'm in a fog about You," " Mexican Moon" and "Just a Moon Ago ".
