Walter Odington

Walter Odington (* in the 14th century ) was an English monk, mathematician and music theorist.

Odington lived as a Benedictine monk in Evesham and Oxford. He also wrote two astronomical treatises, the treatise De speculatione musices. Odington are in his music treatise as one of the first the ratio of the pure third as 5:4 and referred to them as Concordes discordie '.

In the tradition of Pythagorean Konzonanztheorie he explains the Ditonos with the proportion 81:64 as dissonant and mentioned here is that most of this interval hold because of the proximity to the interval with the proportion 5:4 for consonant.

Only Ramis de Pareja sat for the first time the pure third with the proportion 5:4 to replace the Ditonos with the proportion 81:64.
