Walter " Foots " Thomas (* 1907 in Muskogee (Oklahoma ); † August 26, 1981 in New York City ) was an American jazz musician ( saxophone, clarinet, flute, arrangement ) and band leader ..

" Foots " Thomas, brother of saxophonist Joe Thomas, in 1927 came to New York and worked for a time at Jelly Roll Morton. In 1929 he became a member of Missourians, then he moved to the Cab Calloway Orchestra. In 1943 he left the band to work with Don Redman. In 1944, he appeared at the Savoy sessions of Cozy Cole All Stars with and took under his own name some 78s with an all - star band on to the next Cole and Coleman Hawkins, Budd Johnson, Ben Webster Clyde Hart, Oscar Pettiford and Milt Hinton belonged. Since the 1940s, he lived in Englewood (New Jersey). In later years he worked full time as a manager and was next to mentor Jackie McLean.
