Walter Van Beirendonck

Walter Van Beirendonck ( born February 4, 1957 in Brecht in the Flanders region in Belgium ) is a Belgian fashion designer.

Life

Van Beirendonck completed his studies in 1980 at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp from. He belongs to the group of the Antwerp Six, belong to the artist Dirk van Saene, Dries Van Noten, Ann Demeulemeester, Marina Yee ( All Graduation year 1981) and Dirk Bikkembergs (born 1982).

Since 1983 Van Beirendonck designs his own fashion collections, which are characterized by unusual color combinations, influences by the folk art of different nations and graphic expression. In the years 1993-1999 the German manufacturer Jean Mustang had a license agreement with the designer. In 1997 he equipped the participants of the tour of the musical group U2 for their PopMart tour. He is a designer of Italian shoe brand W6YZ.

1999 Van Beirendonck was appointed Honorary Cultural Ambassador of Flanders. In the following years he worked at a variety of fashion projects, participated in exhibitions and operated his own Window Gallery in Antwerp. In 2011 he curated the A Magazine curated by, which is published by Artimo.
