Walter Weizel

Walter Weizel ( born August 1, 1901 in Lauterecken, district Kusel; † 6 August 1982) was a German theoretical physicist and politician.

Life and work

Weizel first studied chemistry and received his doctorate in 1925 at the University of Heidelberg in chemistry. In 1930 he was at the University of Chicago with Robert Mulliken. From 1931 he was Professor of Theoretical Physics at the University of Karlsruhe and from 1936 at the University of Bonn. In 1969 he retired. Weizel dealt particularly with molecular physics and molecular spectra and gas discharges.

After the war he was a member of the SPD and 1948-1954 Deputy SPD parliamentary group in the city of Bonn advice. 1954 to 1958 he was a member of the North Rhine Westphalia state parliament.
