Walter Winchell

Walter Winchell ( born April 7, 1897 in New York City; † February 20, 1972 in Los Angeles ) was an American journalist.

Life

Winchell grew up in New York City to a Jewish family. After leaving school he worked as a reporter for the newspaper Vaudeville News in 1920; after that he worked as a reporter for Evening Graphics from 1924 and then moved in June 1929 for the newspaper New York Daily Mirror. He also worked from 1930 for the radio station WABC in New York City. He worked after the Second World War as a television journalist for the U.S. television channel NBC and ABC. Winchell was married to Rita Greene 1919 to 1928.
