Waltrude

Waltraud of Mons (also Walde Trudi, French Sainte Waudru ) (* beginning of the 7th century in France; † 9 April at 688 in Mons ) is a saint of the Catholic Church.

Life

Waltraud (often written as Waltraud ) came from the royal family of the Merovingians, and came from a family that emerged from the many saints. Her parents were the Count Walbert and St. Bertila, her sister the Holy Adelgundis.

She was married to the Count of Hainaut, Vincent Madelgarius, a court official of King Dagobert I, who was later referred to as a saint, and had four children. The oldest was the Holy Landricus, the abbot of the monasteries founded by his father in Soignies and skin Mont in northern France, was probably was a missionary bishop in the area around Brussels and died around 700. The second was the Holy Medelberta, the abbess of Maubeuge was 705 and died. The third child was the Holy Adeltrud that followed her aunt Adelgundis as Abbess of Maubeuge. The fourth child was the holy Dentelin, who died at the age of seven years.

After her husband Vincent Madelgarius had entered the monastery founded by himself skin Mont at Maubeuge, Waltraud took two years later to 656 even the veil. She founded a Benedictine Abbey in Castrilocus to who originated the modern city of Mons, and conducted themselves as abbess. Waltraud recalls in Mons today the Gothic abbey church of Sainte - Waudru, where she was also buried.

Legend
