When Bach on Ruhrdeich

The well stream is about 6.6 km long, orographic right tributary of the Ruhr in Witten. In the industrial history of the Ruhr city of Bach plays an important role.

Course

The well stream rises in Wullen as Pferdebachstrasse. There he runs into many parts piped under the surface, just south of the University of Witten / Herdecke the stream is disclosed in a short section. At the level of the settlement Dirschauer road there is a stormwater retention basin. From there, the water a short distance flows in a lined with concrete floors creek bed until it disappears again into the pipe system before the Pferdebachstraße. From his way of Wullen Coming, the piping of the stream runs almost parallel to the railway line Witten Dortmund. Only in the Witten- Hevener district tubs of Bach reenters the earth's surface, but it flows again largely in a concrete bed. He has, however, carefully renatured in the 1980s and 1990s.

Shortly before the mouth it also flows through the grounds of cast steel plant Witten. Passing the 2007 newly built pumping station Witten- When Bach on Ruhrdeich the stream runs parallel to Herbeder road until it flows into the Ruhr. During heavy rainfall the pumping station can relieve up to 21 cubic meters per second in the well stream, so additional flood protection measures have been taken at the creek.
