Warhorse (British band)

Warhorse ( German " war-horse " or " warhorse " ) was an existing 1970-1974 British rock band. Their style is somewhere between progressive rock and hard rock.

She was appointed by former Deep Purple member Nick Simper ( bass) along with Ged Peck (guitar ), Mac Poole (drums), Ashley Holt ( vocals) and Rick Wakeman (keyboards ) was founded. Wakeman was fired again due to chronic unreliability soon and the first demo recordings from 1970 helped Frank Wilson (keyboards), who afterwards became a permanent member. As a band name Iron Horse should first be used, but since there already was a band of the same name, the name Warhorse was chosen.

A recording contract with Phonograms new Vertigo label was quickly closed and the debut LP " War Horse " was released in November 1970. As a single in early 1971 the title of " St. Louis " was disengaged. On the following tour, there were difficulties with Ged Peck, who was eventually replaced by Peter Parks. After the production of the second LP "Red Sea" (which was released in May 1972), Barney James Poole took over from the drums. In July 1974, Simper decided to dissolve Warhorse after Holt and James had left the band.

Both albums were released in 1997 with bonus tracks on CD.

The band was seen on 25 June 1971 at the Beat Club, Radio Bremen, where they played live the song The Ritual. This recording can be heard as a CD bonus track on a compilation released after breakup of the band.
