Waris Shah: Ishq Da Waaris ( Punjabi: ਵਾਰਿਸ ਸ਼ਾਹ: ਇਸ਼ਕ ਦਾ ਵਾਰਿਸ ) is an Indian film directed by Manoj Punj from the year 2006.

Action

When the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb in his kingdom prohibits the music, all instruments are burned and executed musician. After the musicians Makhdoom is executed, his pupil Waris Shah moves to Malkahans ( in present-day Pakistani Punjab ), there to seal his version of the love legend Heer Ranjha. Impressed by his voice, the village girl Bhaagpari and Saabo fall in love with him, which are then to rivals. As Bhaagpari with Waris begins an affair, Saabo discovered it burns out of jealousy of his poems and told the whole village, whereupon Bhaagpari is forcibly married to Inayat Malik.

Production and publication

The film was produced by Sai Productions, directed by Manoj Punj. Shekar SVDC was responsible for the cut, Mahesh Deshpande for Visual Effects.

Premiere of the film was on 6 October 2006, in India and the UK. Golden Palms released the film in the U.S. on DVD.
