Warmux

Warmux (formerly Wormux ) is a free, cross-platform clone of the popular computer game series Worms. Most members of the development team are French.

The development of the game stagnated since April 2011; The official blog is one of the developers expressed pessimistic about the survival of the project.

Background

Warmux is based on the first part of the Worms series, which were designed in a 2D cartoon graphics, while the latter publications were developed entirely in 3D. Game mechanics and physics and graphics engine are based mostly strictly on the model. However, the player has the choice between different characters, which are known as a mascot from the open source world (GNU, Linux, FreeBSD, KDE, GIMP, OpenOffice.org, Mozilla Firefox, Mozilla Thunderbird, etc.) ..

Gameplay

The gameplay was copied exactly from the original: It shall meet at least two teams with a selectable number of members against each other. Turn-based, it is now the player's task to eliminate the opponent (s) team (s) completely. He stands an extensive arsenal of weapons available. The weapons are mostly limited to a number of items and in respect of which the wind must be partially taken into account in order to attack exactly. Between rounds packets are dropped sporadically on the field, which can be picked up by the characters and the supply of weapons, tools and replenish vital energy or expand. The weapons are modeled on the originals of the Worms series in their effects, however, were designed visually different.

The player has built the choice between the single-player or multi- player mode ( via LAN and Internet via TCP / IP connection), since version 0.9.0 the formerly available only as a cheat AI is now officially and easily accessible.
