Warren Cooper

Ernest Warren Cooper QSO ( born February 21, 1933, Dunedin ) is a New Zealand politician.

Biography

After school he worked as a retailer and later as a manager of a motel. His political career began as a member of the New Zealand National Party ( NP) in local politics and was first 1968-1975 Mayor ( Mayor ) of Queenstown.

In 1975 he was a candidate of the NP with the first elected as a Member of the House of Representatives (New Zealand House of Representatives ), in which he initially the constituency of Central Otago, and then from 1978 to 1996 represented the electoral district of Otago.

Cooper was initially 1978-1981 Tourism Minister (Minister of Tourism ) in the government of Prime Minister Robert Muldoon, and was appointed by Muldoon at a cabinet reshuffle as Foreign Minister of New Zealand on 11 December 1981, held this office until the end of Muldoon's term of office on 26 July held in 1984.

After re- election victory of the New Zealand National Party Prime Minister Jim Bolger appointed him in November 1990 as Minister of Defence in his cabinet. Following a cabinet reshuffle in 1993 he took over the office of Minister of the Interior in addition (Internal Affairs Minister ). In 1996 he resigned from the government. Most recently, he was from 1995 to 2001 again mayor of Queenstown.

For his services he was awarded the Queen's Service Order.
