Warren Siegel

Warren David Siegel ( born November 16, 1952 in Flint ( Michigan)) is an American theoretical physicist who is particularly concerned with supersymmetry and string theory.

Siegel studied from 1970 at the University of California, Berkeley ( Bachelor 1973), where he received his doctorate at Martin B. Halpern, 1977 ( Topics in theoretical particle physics ). As a post - graduate student he was at Harvard University, at Brandeis University, from 1979 to 1980 at the Institute for Advanced Study, 1980-1982 at Caltech until 1985 and at Berkeley. From 1985 he was assistant professor and in 1987 professor at the University of Maryland ( College Park ). He is since 1988 professor at the CN Yang Institute of Theoretical Physics of the State University of New York at Stony Brook.

In the late 1970s he had with Marcus T. Grisaru, and Martin Rocek improved methods ( in superspace ) for the calculation of Feynman diagrams in a supersymmetric field theories .. With two and Sylvester James Gates, he wrote in 1983 the book Super Space. He also introduced a new method of dimensional regularization in supersymmetric perturbation theory one ( Dimensional Reduction). In the 1980s, he played a leading role in the development of string field theory. Also, the engine wrote in 1988 a book which he presented as a quantum field theory textbook (Fields ) online for free.
