Warszawa Główna railway station

The Warszawa Główna station is a former railway station in Warsaw's Wola district on the Towarowa street. He was the most important passenger station after the Second World War, Warsaw, located in the immediate vicinity of today, already lowered here railroad route of the main train station of the city, Warsaw Central. History

Warszawa Główna was a railhead. Until the Second World War he served as a freight station on the old route of the Warsaw - Vienna railway line. After 1945, and as part of the reconstruction of the heavily damaged Warsaw he served for 20 years as a temporary passenger station ( Warszawa Główna Osobowa ) for travelers to and from Warsaw. Former freight - handling facilities were converted to passenger platforms. From 1954 also the suburban traffic at Warszawa Główna to a makeshift barracks Station (later the railway station Warszawa Śródmieście ) was passed in the city center. After the establishment of the new underground Central Station ( Warsaw Central ) in the city center lost Warszawa Główna from 1967 even more important. Current usage

Since 1972, here the Warsaw Railway Museum is housed. In 2009 there was a renovation of the museum building used for parts. The rest of the plant is hardly obtained. The track field is wild. The continued use of valuable land near the city center is unclear. Investors want to build retail and office buildings here.

Others

The area around the station was formerly known as "Siberia", as were shipped from here during the Russian Revolution of 1905 Polish political prisoners in labor camps in Russia. Warszawa Główna was frequently subject in Polish films, as also in a song by Wojciech Młynarski ( " Niedzela na Głównym ").
