Washington is a city in Franklin County in the eastern part of the U.S. state of Missouri and is part of the metropolitan area of ​​Greater St. Louis. The population was 13,243 (2000 ). Washington was the location of the third season of the American television series Town Haul.

History

The city is named after George Washington and was already inhabited during the reign of the Spanish Empire. Originally called the city of St. John 's Settlement and housed a Spanish supply depot named San Juan del Misuri ( 1796-1803 ). Family and entourage of Daniel Boone finally settled in the area from 1799. Since 1814 reversed a ferry across the Missouri River and the area became known as the Washington Landing. The urban development took place in 1827, the land sales began in 1829; the purchase price was refunded if the buyer built a solid dwelling on the acquired land within two years.

First, predominantly German emigrant families met in 1833 in Washington and influenced the local population crucial to take from slavery distance.
