Wat Umong

Wat Suan Umong Phutthatham ( Thai: วัด อุโมงค์ สวน พุทธ ธรรม, short name: Wat Umong, also: Wat U Mong - วัด อุโมงค์ ), is a 700 year old Buddhist temple in Chiang Mai in northern Thailand.

Wat Umong is up to the mountains of Doi Suthep south of the University of Chiang Mai.

The foundation of the temple said to have been made in the 1380s by King Kue Na according to legend. The temple fell since the end of the reign of King Tilokarat (reigned 1441-1487 ) in oblivion. Only in 1948 could be re- monks - student of Buddhadasa Bhikkhu - down here.

The temple is thus known that the monks living here live in a very natural environment and occasionally feed the deer and other animals. Under the Chedi, there are tunnels with Buddhist effigies, which can be very easily explored.

On a small lake fish and turtles can be fed.

Wat Suan Umong Phutthatham is not to be confused with the temple similar name in the center of Chiang Mai: Wat Umong Maha Thera Chan.
