Water slide

A water slide is a special type of slide, in which the friction of the sliding individual is reduced by the flowing water in the chute. Due to the reduced frictional resistance, the speed increases.

Water slides are mainly found in swimming pools and outdoor swimming pools, but occasionally also in theme parks.

Principle of operation

At the end of the water slide is a catch basin or the swimming pool. This water is pumped through pipes to the beginning of the slide, where it enters the chute. There are water slides as tubes or channels. For safety, traffic lights are in some slides, but usually with closed slides, installed that govern the safety distance between the sliding people and are designed to prevent such accidents.

Slides types

Water slides and chutes are generally divided into three types of slides:

The first box slide ( a straight bottom with two upright side walls ): It is the most common type of slides is used primarily for playground slides application. But even with high-speed slides, the so-called free-fall slides, this slide type is used, since they usually can be performed for safety reasons only with a straight course.

The box slides are manufactured in three different versions: molded slip floor as an inclined plane inclined plane with a wave or as a brachistochrone (also referred to as Parabolrutsche ).

The second half-shell slide (open well). You will usually then use when additional curves to be constructed. Due to the many possibilities of combinations of curves and the associated slides length, offers this type slides a particularly long-lasting and curvy slip experience.

3 The tunnel slide (closed tube). It provides an increase in the half-shell slide dar. Tunnel Slides bring in addition, if they are darkened or opaque, can the adventurous thrill of a "black hole effect" with it, in which not see the users the slides course, but simply feel or imagine. This slide type is mainly used at high altitudes disposal, since this is a closed system and thus falling out of the slip ends can be excluded.

Conventionally

Most slides are made of fiberglass, some slides are also made of stainless steel.

Besides the classic slides, the so-called " body slides ", there are also tire slides, bringing together the passengers use alone or with other persons a tire. Furthermore, there is just amusement parks often versions, in which small rubber boats are used, so that the use is permitted in normal clothes.

If a tube slide darkened, one speaks of a "black hole slide ". These slides are also often equipped with light or sound effects and some with a water curtain.

Unusual

Looping slides: there is as yet rarely called looping slides, which contain a loop, however, is rather weird and not so steep, unlike normal roller coaster loops, which corresponds to an obliquely upward helix. This design has a lower speed is required, which is intended to minimize the risk of injury. For a looping slide is allowed one emergency exit shall be located in front of each loop, so that the slide can be exited if the loop is not managed. In addition, an applied pressure of 2.6 g should not be exceeded.

Double looping slide: In the Austrian adventure Wave in Wörgl is the first double looping water slide in the world. In this slide, called L2, you start at 25 meters height in the so-called rocket launch mode: A trap door opens and sends the slip ends in a tube in which it can reach a top speed of up to 65 km / hr. This is followed by the two loops, in which one is whirled first seven and then 3.5 meters upwards. More double-loop slides are located in Miramar in Weinheim and in the crystal Palm Beach in stone ( near Nuremberg). The latter was opened in December 2012 and is the highest model of its kind in Europe

Funnel slide: This slide the user is accelerated in a turbo slide and then passes into a large tank-shaped chutes funnel, in which he in a circular motion the hole in the center of the funnel approaches and then falls into an underlying pool of water.

Schanze slides: Also there are also so-called sporadic flight or jump slides. The tube is often only a short, steep section and the rest (usually only a few meters) jumps or "flies" you then. For safety reasons the impact surface is often made of a resilient material.

Pendulum slides: Always popular are also so-called pendulum slides. The pendant slides can be performed with a few large oscillations or with many small, such as in a halfpipe. These slides are designed both as body and as a tire slipping.

Master Blaster: In Germany, very rarely are the so-called Master Blaster slides. This is to tire slippage, which have a special feature: Through strong water jets is the rider - sitting in the tire - uphill "shot". Such a slide is located eg in the leisure pool Aquana Wuerselen, in bestowing seaside resort in Schwäbisch Hall and at the Therme Erding.

Whitewater Bach: Some slides manufacturers provide whitewater rivers or brooks. It is usually moved outside, open slides, which are a combination of shell-shaped and box-shaped slides segments. Through tight turns, very strong water flow and sudden depths or currents can be even without much difference in height will find interesting patterns.

Competitions

Meanwhile, the Slide competition resulting from fun has become the racing slides and there was a stand-alone semi- aquatic sport with several associations and clubs that perform championships.

Private use

Special plastic foils with nozzles for wetting with water are available for private use, for example, in gaming center or in the garden for children can be connected to the garden hose to serve as a simple water slide.
