Flight times and caterpillars

The moths fly in two generations from late April to early June and from early July to August. The caterpillars from the eggs of the first generation can be found in September, the second from June to July of the following year. In climatically unfavorable areas developed only a generation of much smaller moths, which then fly from late May to the end of June each year.

Food of the caterpillars

The monophagous caterpillars eat only leaves of beech ( Fagus sylvatica).

Development

The caterpillars pupate together between spun leaves in a yellowish cocoon and hibernate so on the ground in the diffusion layer as a doll.
