Waveland is a city in Hancock County, Mississippi on the Gulf of Mexico in Mississippi Gulfport -Biloxi metropolitan area. Waveland has a size of 17.6 square kilometers and had a population of 6,674 before Hurricane Katrina in 2731 households (according to the census in 2000). The 3,442 houses in the town was completely destroyed by Hurricane Katrina on August 29, 2005, after official figures were drowned about 50 inhabitants. Already 36 years earlier, in 1969, Waveland had been severely damaged by Hurricane Camille.
The city is located in the reconstruction. The Silver Slipper Casino with three precious restaurants and a fast food restaurant was opened on the coastal road of Waveland in succession of the destroyed by Hurricane Katrina Bayou Caddy 's Jubliee Casino on November 9, 2006.
History
Waveland was a pirate base in the 19th century. In 1802 built a company based in New Orleans merchant who has been a leader of the Gold Coast pirates and a business friend of Jean Laffite, the Pirate's House, which existed until Hurricane Katrina. Allegedly led from the house an underground passage to the sea shore, and in the house, a hiding place for pirates to have been pursued.

Hurricane Katrina
Hurricane Katrina on August 29, 2005, a wind speed of 217 km / h and caused an up to 6.70 meter high tidal wave that flooded and completely destroyed Waveland. The hurricane winds raged 17 hours, and the tsunamis reached 0.3 to 7 m in height. All 3,442 buildings were torn.
