Hancock County (Mississippi)
The Hancock County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Bay Saint Louis, which was according to Louis IX. , King, nominated by France.

The County is located in the extreme south of Mississippi on the Gulf of Mexico and on the west by Louisiana. The Hancock County has an area of 1431 square kilometers, of which 196 square kilometers are water surface. It borders the following counties and parishes:
History
Hancock County was formed on December 18, 1812 from parts of the Mobile District. It was named for John Hancock, an American businessman and one of the leaders of the uprising against the British motherland. He was the third President of the Continental Congress and the first signer of the Declaration of Independence, and first governor of Massachusetts.

According to the census in 2000, lived in Hancock County 42 967 people in 16,897 households and 11,827 families. The population density was 35 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 90.19 percent White, 6.83 percent African American, 0.60 percent Native American, 0.88 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander, and 0.33 percent from other races groups; 1.14 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.80 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race, were members of the various groups mentioned.
Of the 16,897 households out of which 31.5 percent of children under the age of 18 living with them. 53.9 percent were married couples living together, 11.3 percent were single mothers and 30.0 percent were non-families. 24.7 percent of all households were single-person households and 9.2 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.52 and the average family size is 2.99 people.
25.1 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 7.3 percent between 18 to 24, 28.0 percent between 25 and 44, 25.6 percent between 45 and 64 years old and 14.0 percent were 65 years or older. The average age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 98.3 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.5 males.
The average income of a household was $ 35,202, the family $ 40,307 a. Males had a median income of $ 32,229, women $ 22,066. The per capita income was $ 17,748. Approximately 11.2 percent of families and 14.4 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
