Winston County (Mississippi)

The Winston County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Louisville, which was named after the city in Kentucky.

The County is located just north-east of the geographic center of Mississippi and has an area of 1580 square kilometers, of which eight square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered by the following counties:

History

The Winston County was formed on December 23, 1833 from parts of the Choctaw country. It was named after Judge Louis Winston.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Winston County 20,160 people in 7,578 households and 5,471 families. The population density was 13 people per square kilometer.
