Chickasaw County (Mississippi)
The Chickasaw County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. In 2010, the County had 17,392 inhabitants and a population density of 13.4 inhabitants per square kilometer. The Management seats ( County Seat) are Houston and Okolona. The Chickasaw County is among the ten counties in Mississippi that have two county administrations.
Geography
The County is located in the central north east of the Mississippi and has an area of 1306 square kilometers, of which seven square kilometers of water surface. In the area of the county rises with the Yalobusha River one of the two sources of the Yazoo River, a left tributary of the Mississippi. At the Chickasaw County borders the following Nachbarcountys:
History
The Chickasaw County was formed on February 9, 1836 from parts of the Choctaw country. It was named for the Chickasaw, a North American Indian people.
Demographic data
According to the census in 2010 lived in Chickasaw County 17,392 people in 6673 households. The population density was 13.4 inhabitants per square kilometer. In the 6673 households lived statistically 2.58 per person.
The racial the population was composed of 55.5 percent white, 42.9 percent African American, 0.2 percent Native American, 0.4 percent Asian, 0.1 percent Polynesians as well as other ethnic groups; 0.9 percent were descended from two or more races. Regardless of ethnicity were 3.7 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
