Newton County (Mississippi)

The Newton County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Decatur, named after Stephen Decatur, a naval officer and hero in the British -American War of 1812.

History

Newton County was formed on February 25, 1836 from parts of the Neshoba County. It was named after Isaac Newton, an English physicist, mathematician, astronomer, alchemist, philosopher and theologian.
