Wayne County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Waynesboro. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

History

The Wayne County was formed on December 21, 1809 from Washington County. It was named, as well as the district capital, according to Anthony Wayne (1745-1796), a brigadier general in the American Revolutionary War.
