The Yazoo County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Yazoo City.

The County is located in the west of the Mississippi and has an area of 2419 square kilometers, of which 38 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered by the following counties:
History
The Yazoo County was formed on January 21, 1823 from parts of Hinds County. It was named, as well as the district capital, after running here Yazoo River.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Yazoo County 28,149 people in 9,178 households and 6,644 families. The population density was 12 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 44.74 percent White, 53.96 percent Black or African American, 0.20 percent Native American, 0.36 percent Asian, and 0.22 percent from other races; 0.52 percent were descended from two or more races. 4.38 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race, were members of the various groups mentioned.
Of the 9,178 households out of which 35.6 percent of children under the age of 18 living with them. 43.2 percent were married couples living together, 23.7 percent were single mothers and 27.6 percent were non-families. 24.5 percent of all households were single-person households, and 11.7 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.81 and the average family size was 3.35 persons.
28.5 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 9.8 percent between 18 and 24, 29.2 percent between 25 and 44, 20.1 percent between 45 and 64 years old and 12.4 percent were 65 years or older. The average age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 103.6 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 103.6 males.
The average income of a household was $ 24,795, for a family is $ 29,395. Males had a median income of $ 28,553, women $ 19,797. The per capita income was $ 12,062. Approximately 25.4 percent of families and 31.9 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
