Prentiss County, Mississippi

The Prentiss County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. In 2010, the County had 25 276 inhabitants and a population density of 23.5 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Booneville, which was named after Daniel Boone, an American pioneer and frontiersman who explored the so-called Wilderness Trail and the City of Boonesborough in Kentucky founded. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located almost in the extreme northeast Mississippi and is about 25 miles from Alabama and Tennessee away. It has an area of 1083 square kilometers, of which nine square kilometers of water surface. At the Prentiss County borders the following Nachbarcountys:

History

The Prentiss County was formed on April 15, 1870 from parts of Tishomingo County. It was named after Seargent Smith Prentiss (1808-1850), a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives ( 1838-1839 ).
