Wavy Gravy

Wavy Gravy ( " Wavy gravy"; really Hugh Romney, born May 15, 1936 in East Greenbush, New York) is an American activist, hippie, clown and author. He received his unusual stage name allegedly by BB King. He was considered the "official clown " of the Grateful Dead.

Gravy was a member of the Merry Pranksters.

Wavy Gravy is also the name of an ice cream variety, named after the " Clown Prince of the Woodstock generation " ( to be read on the website of the ice maker Ben & Jerry's ). Wavy Gravy said of himself: "I am an activist clown and frozen dessert ".

Early 1960 was Hugh Romney a driving force of the underground scene in New York's Greenwich Village. In 1965 he founded with friends in the vicinity of Los Angeles, the Hog Farm ( " pig farm "), a hippie commune in the environment of the Grateful Dead. The Hog Farm was responsible for security at the Woodstock Festival in 1969.

Annually organized Wavy Gravy Hog Farm Family Pig - the Nic, a music and cultural festival at the Black Oak Ranch in Laytonville, California. He also organized every summer at the same place, the camp Winnarainbow, a circus and artists holiday camp for children and adults from disadvantaged backgrounds.
