Wayne Thiebaud

Morton Wayne Thiebaud (* November 15, 1920 in Mesa, Arizona) is an American painter and a major representative of the American Pop Art.

Biography

Wayne Thiebaud parents were followers of the Mormons. Between 1921 and 1933 the family lived in Long Beach, Salt Lake City and Los Angeles. On the Long Beach Polytechnic High School Thiebaud showed interest in sports, music, theater and on drawing lessons - especially like he caricatured his classmates and teachers. In the summer of 1936 he worked in the animation department of Walt Disney Studios. During the Second World War he served in the United States Army Air Forces and was stationed near Sacramento. In 1949 he enrolled as a student at San Jose State University (Bachelor of Arts) and from 1950 to 1953 at the California State University (Master of Arts) in Sacramento one. Between 1951 and 1961 he was a lecturer at Sacramento City College, where he later Pop Art artist Mel Ramos taught, among others, and from 1960 to 1976 at the University of California at Davis.

For the 12th anniversary of the Google search engine on 27 September 2010, he designed a logo, a so-called Doodle that appeared that day on its home page.
