History

In 1912, the Gutehoffnungshütte bought in the south of Nierstein a lime pit, together with the neighboring vineyards. The lime was needed for the production of iron in the Ruhr. After the First World War, there was no more need for lime, so they decided to farm the surrounding vineyards. 1920, the first wine was produced. The wines of the estate " Gutehoffnungshütte " were only drunk in the group and given to the customer and sold. The lime pit was sold in 1955 and invested the proceeds in the vineyard and the winery. In the course of vineyards were purchased in the famous Niersteiner documents.

In the eighties, the Group was reorganized and operated under the name MAN. Also, the winery received a new name, St. Antony by St. Antony ironworks, first ironworks in Oberhausen.

The responsibility for the winery was the Company's Executive Board, and the winery developed a place among the hundred best in Germany.

In 2005, the winery was sold to Detlev Meyer. The long-established Niersteiner Winery Heyl zu Herrnsheim also part of his possession, it was officially dissolved in 2008 and now exists as a trademark of St. Antony winery GmbH & Co. KG.
