Weissenohe Abbey

The monastery Weißenohe is a former Benedictine monastery in Weißenohe in Bavaria in the diocese of Bamberg.

History

The St. Boniface consecrated monastery was founded in 1053 by Aribo IV, Count Palatine of the Chiemgau, his wife and their niece Willa Hademuot. The monastery was directly under the Holy See, was rich immediate noble abbey and Pope Paschal III. confessed to him in 1109 the free Abtwahl to.

In 1692 began the construction of the present monastery church of St. Boniface, designed by Wolfgang Dietzenhofer ( 1648-1706 ) and completed in 1707.

The monastery was dissolved in 1803 in the wake of secularization. The monastery buildings were sold in 1804 and 1850, broken down to a leaf.

Today, located in the premises of offices and a restaurant with beer garden of the monastery brewery.
