Wendel S. A. is a French publicly traded corporation headquartered in Paris.

Wendel SA is listed on the Paris Stock Exchange 120 share index SBF.

History

The origin of the company dates back to the founder Jean -Martin Wendel, who acquired in 1704 a blacksmith in Hayange. In 1734, his son Charles de Wendel took the lead and expanded until he died in 1784. His wife Marguerite d' Hayange led the company until the expropriation in 1797 with the beginning of the French Revolution. 1803, the family must return the forging.

The shares of the Dutch Oranje -Nassau Groep BV were purchased in 1908.

A year after the first oil crisis of 1973, the French government decided to nationalize the national steel industry. The group had to restructure and grabbed the other divisions in a new company named Compagnie Generale d' Industrie et de Participations ( CGIP ) headed by Ernest- Antoine Seillière together. During this time, the steel mills of the group produced more than 70 percent in France

With the merger of the CGIP and Marine-Wendel 2002, the present company was formed.
