Biography

Wendell Mayes began his show career as an actor. In order to promote himself as an actor, he began to write screenplays for television. One of these scripts for an episode of Kraft Television Theatre got such good reviews that director Billy Wilder Mayes as a screenwriter for Lindbergh - undertook My flight over the ocean. Mayes remained in the period following this subject faithful. In 1961 he also worked at a German production with (Spanish legend). Although his output of manuscripts was low at just under 20 screenplays, but he had considerable success with this one right.

His biggest success was the screenplay for Anatomy of a Murder, the adaptation of the eponymous novel by Robert Traver. He won the 1959 NYFCC Award from the New York Film Critics Circle and in 1960 nominated for the Oscar for best adapted screenplay and in the same year for the WGA Award from the Writers Guild of America. Another nomination for the WGA Award he received in 1979 for the final battle.

At the age of 72 years, Wendell Mayes died on 28 March 1992.
