Wendy Barrie

Wendy Barrie ( born April 18, 1912 in Hong Kong as Marguerite Wendy Jenkins, † February 2nd 1978 in Englewood, New Jersey, United States) was a British actress.

Life

The daughter of a British lawyer played as a teenager in the English theaters before she gave her film debut in 1932 with threads. She was then taken by Alexander Korda under contract and soon became their first major success with six women and a king on the side of Charles Laughton and Merle Oberon. In 1934 she went to Hollywood where she was taken from the Fox contract and starred in the romantic comedy It's a small world on the side of Spencer Tracy. In 1936 she moved to MGM and starred opposite James Stewart in speed. Three years later she became world famous with the Sherlock Holmes classic, The Hound of the Baskervilles, where she starred opposite Basil Rathbone as the female lead.

In the 1940s, she retired from the film business and occurred only sporadically in television programs on how in 1948 in the children's comedy The Adventures of Oky Doky. In the same year she began her career as a presenter of several shows. 1962 drew Wendy Barrie back from acting.

Wendy Barrie has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (1708 Vine Street ). She died at age 65 from the effects of a stroke.
