Wentzville is a small town in the west of St. Charles County in the U.S. state of Missouri (estimated 2009) with 28,768 residents. Wentzville is currently the fastest growing city in Missouri. General Motors is the largest employer in the town, which has built a new assembly plant.

Due to its location at the crossroads of two major highways Wentzville is also called Crossroads of the Nation.

History

Wentzville was founded in 1855 as a depot on the Northern Missouri Railroad. The place was named after Erasmus Livingston Wentz railway engineer. The surrounding land was taken from William M. Allen owned and invested the place.

During the Civil War the town was in 1861 the scene of numerous skirmishes along the railroad line in July. Confederate guerrilla units threatened the important railway line and units of the Union Army beat them back.

Geography

Wentzville is located at 38 ° 48'58 " north latitude and 90 ° 51'26 " west longitude. The city covers an area of 37.3 km ², which consist almost exclusively of land area.
