WERGO

The term WERGO is a 1962 founded by the art historian Werner Goldschmidt and musicologist Helmut Kirch Mayer, a German record label, specializing in contemporary music. Marks of the first productions were:

  • The common umbrella term studio series new music
  • The typographical design of the cover ( matter-of- spartan, red and black lettering on a white background)
  • In the supplement comprehensive information and business comments

1970 WERGO was taken over by the music publisher Schott. Since then, more than 500 productions were published. Outside of the normal program appear several rows:

  • Since 1986 WERGO are in cooperation with the German Music Council out the series Contemporary Music Edition, which presents the work of young German composers.
  • Furthermore WERGO works with the Acoustic Art Studio of the WDR in Cologne ( WERGO series: Ars Acustica ) and the
  • Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe ( WERGO Series: Edition ZKM) together.
  • Together with the Berlin House of World Cultures and the Music Department of the Ethnological Museum (Berlin) to WERGO engaged in the field of world music.
  • In the series Digital Music Digital publications are issued with computer music.
