Werner Dahm

Werner K. Dahm ( born February 16, 1917 in Lindenthal near Cologne, † January 17, 2008 in Huntsville, Alabama, United States ) was a German rocket pioneer.

Dahm was born the son of Anton Dahm and Maria Morkramer near Cologne. Shortly after his birth parents moved to Bonn. There he joined the Beethoven School and studied from 1936 at the Technical University of Aachen, and then after it was closed in Munich aerodynamics and aircraft. His father was an engineer.

In 1941 he came to the rocket team of Wernher von Braun to Peenemünde. As the youngest member of the group, he worked on the development of the Hermes II Along with von Braun, he led this work even after his move to the United States from 1950. He followed von Braun also when he moved to NASA. Only in 2006, ended his active service after he was involved in a car accident. He was thus the last active German rocket specialist at NASA from his time.

Dahm was married twice. His first wife, whom he had married in 1955, died in 1976. In 1981 he married again, his second wife died in 2000. Werner Dahm left four sons.
