West Newbury is a town in New England. It is located in Essex County in Massachusetts on the banks of the Merrimack River, about 40 miles to Boston. With the adjacent places Merrimac and Groveland of the place, is the joint Pentucket Regional School District.

History

West Newbury was first settled in 1635 as part of the present town of Newbury. On February 18, 1819, the Massachusetts General Court passed a law " for the registration of city Parsons ". The original proposal had already been made in the late 18th century, but Newbury had after it already had to do without Newburyport, decided against the independence and fought for the measure to block some decades. On 14 June 1820, another law was passed, with which the name of Parsons in West Newbury has changed.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the area of the city is 37.8 km ², of which 35 km ² of land and 2.8 km ² (7.4%) on water surfaces.

Demography

In the United States Census 2000 4306 inhabitants were counted in 1392 households and 1183 families in West Newbury. The population density was 118.5 inhabitants / km ². The number of housing units was 1423, which corresponds to a density of 40.6 dwellings / km ².

The inhabitants passed in 2000 to 94.48 % White, 0.19% African American, 0.02 % Native American, 0.53 % Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.36 % from other races, and 0.41 % from two or more races. 0.65 % of the population reported in the Census to be Hispanic or Latino.

In 46.6 % of households were living children under the age of 18 and 76.8 % of households are married couples living together, 6.2% of households had a female householder with no husband present, and 15.0 % of households were non-families. 11.9 % of all households were made up of individuals and 5.2% had someone aged 65 years or older living alone. The average household size was 2.98 and the average family consisted of 3.25 persons.

Of the population 30.0% were less than 18 years old, 4.3 % were in the age group of 18 to 24 years, 27.0% were between 25 and 44 years old and 29.9 % between 45 and 64 years. 8.8% were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 99.5 males; each accounted for 93.9 men per 100 women in the age 18 and over.

The average income per household was $ 92,828, and the median family income was U.S. $ 99 050. The men had on average an income of 80 670 U.S. $, compared to U.S. $ 40 189 for women. The per capita income amounted to U.S. $ 35 323. About 2.8 % of families and 3.8 % of the population were below the poverty line; this applied to 3.8 % of those under age 18 and 9.8 % of those age 65 or over.
