Western Link

Västlänken ( West German connection) is a planned railway project in the Swedish city of Gothenburg. 2018 a double-track tunnel to be created, which should open up the Göterborger Central Station and two new commuter train stations. The start of construction is scheduled for 2017 or 2018, which does not start before 2025.

The main railway station is to be preserved and complemented by two underground tracks.

The billion euro project is hardly controversial. The community-based planning process has been widely praised. The project will be financed from revenues of urban congestion charging. According to a report by the Göteborgs-Posten, the calculated cost of 300 million euro had risen to 2.3 billion euros in 2009, in 1989.
