Weston Price

Weston Andrew Valleau Price, D.D.S. (* 1870, † 1948) was an American dentist and nutritionist. He was from 1914-1923 Chairman of the Research Division of the American Dental Association. He was known primarily for his studies on the food habits of deposited Peoples ( " Charles Darwin of Nutrition" ).

Studies

Surprised by the increasing since the late 19th century cases of tooth decay and general degradation of physical strength of his patients tried Dr. Price, the acid production of the prevailing theory of bacteria in the oral cavity (see caries) was not convinced, another reason for these symptoms to find. His search for an answer led him to diverse peoples scattered across the globe, who lived in seclusion from the modern civilization. His travels took him as, inter alia, in Switzerland, the Outer Hebrides off Scotland, to the Inuit, the native Americans, the Aborigines and Maori, many African tribes, and many others. Wherever he was leading his journey, Dr. Price discovered natives who had perfect teeth, seemed virtually immune to all diseases and an unnatural endurance possessed.

Dr. Price sought the factors that determine such good health and were absent in the modern world - he found mainly in food. When he underwent the food of the natives closer investigation, he found that this at least four times as much calcium and other minerals, and at least ten times as many fat-soluble vitamins of animal origin from about butter, roe, shellfish and organs contained as an average American diet. These aborigines with their well-developed bodies, emotional peace and freedom from disease were in direct contrast to people in the Western world, who lived from sugar, white flour, pasteurized milk and prefabricated food.

Less well known is his involvement in the investigation of the cause of the " mottled teeth " (English: " mottled teeth" ). On the one hand he gave as a member of the Research Advisory Committee of the American Dental Association dentist Dr. Frederick Sumner McKay financial support for the relevant work. In addition, he was himself a member of an official Commission for the Study of the cause of mottled teeth. As the team headed by the Moroccan veterinary Dr. Henri Velu observed tooth damage in animals after feeding fluoride feed and a connection with the appearance of " mottled teeth " when people guessed it was Dr. Price, who in his laboratory analysis of the fluoride content of the delivered allowed to carry water samples.
