The whetstone at Hatzbach in Hessen Marburg- Biedenkopf and Schwalm- Eder-Kreis is a 358.5 m above sea level. NHN high mountain of Gilserberger heights.

Mountain Name

The name whetstone suggests a pre-Christian place of worship. The Germans completed their worship in sacred groves, in particular trees, at the source, eye-catching rocks and mountains. The Honed stone dust of the god Wodan consecrated stones, whetstones so-called, was considered sacred. On the mountain, presumably such stone dust was whetted.

Location

The whetstone is located on the southern edge of the Gilserberger heights. Its summit rises about 150 m west-southwest of the border of the district of Marburg -Biedenkopf the Schwalm- Eder district, 2 km north-northeast of Hatzbach ( to Stadtallendorf ), 3 km southeast of Josbach ( Rauschenberg ) and 2.7 (each air line) east of Wolferode ( Stadtallendorf ). Just north past the wooded mountain flows the Wohra inflow Josbach and south rises the little Hatzbach inflow torrent.

The whetstone heard in the physiographic feature unit group West Hesse Highlands (No. 34) and in the main unit Oberhessische threshold ( 346 ) for subunit Gilserberger heights ( 346.0 ), with its landscape drops to the south in the subunit Neustadt saddle ( 346.1 ).
