White Fairy Terns ( Gygis alba)
The Fairy Tern ( Gygis alba, English fairy tern or white tern ) is a seabird of the tern family ( Sternidae ).
Description
The Fairy Tern has white plumage, black eyes and a blue- black beak. It is about 30 cm tall and has webbed toes.
Habitat
She lives in the tropical and subtropical zones of the oceans, especially on small islands south of the equator. In the Atlantic Ocean it is indigenous to the islands of Ascension and St. Helena Trindade, in the Indian Ocean about in the Seychelles and the Maldives.
Nutrition
The birds feed on small fish, which they catch from the sea. A bird can carry up to six fish in its beak at the same time, to bring them on land and pass it on to his boys.
Reproduction
The Fairy Tern lives monogamous. Breeding season is throughout the year, the birds while still offering to build a nest. The egg is simply placed on a Astgabelung or a ledge.
