Whitehall is a city and the administrative seat of Trempealeau County in the western part of the U.S. state of Wisconsin with 1651 inhabitants ( 2000).

Geography

White Hall is located at 44 ° 22 'north latitude and 91 ° 19 ' west longitude, extends over 4.3 km ² at an altitude of 251 meters above the sea level. The town lies at the mouth of Pigeon Creek in the Trempealeau River.

U.S. Highway 53 runs from the southeast to the city area. From the west of Wisconsin Highway 121 comes to town. Both roads leaving the city together in a northeasterly direction.

The city was founded on the route network of the "Green Bay and Western Railroad ". Currently, the rail service provided by the Canadian National is provided.

The La Crosse Municipal Airport is located 70 kilometers south of the city.

The nearest large towns are Eau Claire ( about 60 km north ), La Crosse (about 70 km south) and the Twin Cities ( Minneapolis and Saint Paul ) in Minnesota (about 230 km north-west ). Madison, the capital of the state is about 250 km south-east and Chicago, the nearest big city, about 470 km south-east.

Demographic data

In the census of 2000 a population of 1651 was determined. These were distributed among 693 households in 416 families. The population density was 382.7 inhabitants per square kilometer. There were 733 residential buildings, which corresponded to a housing density of 169.9 per square kilometer buildings.

The population was in 2000 from 99.6 percent white, 0.1 percent African American, 0.1 percent Native Americans, 0.1 percent Asian and 0.1 percent other. 0.1 percent said to be descended from at least two of these groups. 0.3 percent of the population consisted of Hispanics who belonged to the various of the aforementioned groups.

23.7 percent were under 18 years, 6.7 percent between 18 to 24, 26.3 percent of 25-44, 21.4 percent from 45 to 64 and 21.9 percent 65 and older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females were statistically 92.4 men in the over 18 -year-olds 89.5.

The median income per household amounted to 33958 U.S. Dollars (USD), the median family income 48047 USD. The median income of men was 28643 USD, and for women about 21332 USD.
