Who Put The Bomp

Who Put The Bomp, Bomp later only! was one of the first music fanzines. Its 21 editions published between 1970 until 1979. The appearing in the U.S. fanzine offered later known authors such as Lester Bangs and Greil Marcus first Veröffentlichunsgmöglichkeiten and made by its wide notoriety for help shape the DIY ethic of punk. Editor Greg Shaw was in his youth active in science fiction fandom and therefore knew the institution of fanzines. In 1966 he founded the Bomp! Predecessor Mojo Navigator and Rock 'n ' Roll News. From the Bomp! Fanzine Shaw developed the independent record label Bomp! Records, which he headed until his death in 2004.

The name Who Put The Bomp is borrowed from the title of a novelty song by Barry Mann from 1961, which was later covered as a result of the notoriety of the fanzine of various punk bands such as Me First and the Gimme Gimmes.
