Wicklow-Mountains-Nationalpark

The Wicklow Mountains National Park ( Irish Páirc Náisiúnta Shléibhte Chill Wicklow, English Wicklow Mountains National Park ) is one of six National Parks in the Republic of Ireland ( see map). He was expelled in its current size of about 200 km2 in 1991. It is located in the heart of the largely incurred in the Paleozoic during the Caledonian mountain folding Wicklow Mountains in County Wicklow on the east of Ireland with a visitor center at Glendalough, which can be translated as "Valley of the Two Lakes ". Bullauns

Burnt Mounds

Among the numerous " Fulachta Fia " the Burnt Mound of Ballinabrocky ( Buaile na Brocaí ) stands out on the western edge of the park. The Caher

The archaeological monument is adjacent to the Upper Lake. It is a stone, a ring fort with a dry stone wall of about 20 m in diameter, which has about one meter residual height. Cup - marks

Camaderry is an example of bowls that have been in 1877 at the foot of the Mountains Camaderry discovered on a mica schist rocks near the eastern end of the Upper Lake. The stone with 18 " Cup " was added later to the monastery.

Megaliths

The megaliths are located in the northwest of the park to the Seefin Mountains and the Sorrel Hill. Reefert Church

The remains of the Reefert Church ( Teampall Rífhearta ) are located in a wooded area on the south- eastern shore of the Upper Lake. The name derives from the Reefert, the Irish ' Righ - Fhearta " royal tombs " (based on the local communities of the O'Toole ). The church dates from the 11th century and may have been built on the site of an older church. Church and cemetery were originally surrounded by a fence early church in the form of a wall. St. Kevin 's Bed

Templenaskellig

The ruins of the small church Templenaskellig ( Teampall na Sceilge ) lie at the foot of the cliffs on the southern shore of the Upper Lake. West of the church is a platform with the remains of round huts. The church was renews the 12th century.

Various crosses

On the Upper Lake are several stone crosses, which may have been used as stations during pilgrimage to Glendalough.

The National Park includes parts of the estate of Powerscourt. Powerscourt Castle is located just outside the national park.
